| Who blew up? |
|
|
1. Bart Willems.
Bart is one of the underground Saffa chargers enjoying an extended winter in the Northern Hemisphere. Having swum from Robben Island to Cape Town Bart decided to keep with his theme of swimming from Prison Islands and try and swim from Alcatraz to San Francisco. Braving crazy currents and swimming through the shipping lanes around San Francisco Bart pulled it off even if he did only get back to the San Francisco harbour after dark. If you haven’t seen the video of his escapade yet then click here to watch it.

2. Beyrick De Vries and Sarah Baum.
Beyrick and Sarah stormed through the Quiksilver ISA World JNR Champs to finish in the finals, to keep the SA flag flying right until the end. Beyrick ended up 4th and Sarah 3rd. Well done guys!

3. James Taylor.
James rescued a fellow surfer from almost certain drowning whilst surfing Sunset Beach in Hawaii recently. The surfer had suffered a heavy wipe-out and had become disorientated due to a burst eardrum. James stabilised the guy, calmed him down and then helped navigate him back to the beach. James’s karma was obviously pretty good as the guy gave him a new board later that day as a thank you present. You know what they say, good things happen to good people...

| And who blew it? |
|
1. All the Saffa WQS hopefuls who went to Brazil instead of Hawaii..
Brazil is tiny inconsistent and full of millions of Brazilians who live to surf that slop while Hawaii is having the best winter in living memory. Besides that when else do you get to surf cooking Pipe with only 3 other guys out? Check what they missed at day one of The Volcom Pro at Pipeline.

2 Ant Fox.
Capetonian Ant Fox recently came up to Durban. He got tipped off that Cave Rock would be ON on Saturday morning. Saturday morning dawned and all the boys were pulling into kegs left right and centre (albeit chocolate brown kegs). No Fox? Instead he spent his time pulling into close outs at Umhlanga...

3. We blew it last week on the BMT.
We blew it last week on the BMT when we said that Elton Ireland was the main shaper for Bilt Surfboards, when in fact Elton Fursman is the main shaper for Bilt and Elton Lee Ireland is the man behind GCS Surfboards. Our apologies to all concerned. |
