TheBOMBsurf caught up with him in St Francis:
How does it feel to be finished school? Stoked with your results?
Ja I'm really happy to be done. It feels like a big load off my back, a lot more time in the water and a lot less catching up, so it's definitely a big relief. Happy with my B average - that was my goal and I achieved it.
Quite a few of the Pro Junior kids do home school to try and increase time in the water, what made you decide to stick it out at 'real school'?
To me it was just something you finish. It's just one of those things, so I just stuck out and finished.
So now that you are done with school what's a day in the life of Shaun like?
I get woken up by my mom, have something to eat, go for a surf wherever I can find waves, hang out with friends, play some guitar hero, and probably surf again and squeeze some sort of fitness in as well. It's busy, but i enjoy it.
How involved are you with your shapers? Do you like to get into the bay and participate, or do you leave it up to the shaper?
I like to talk to the shapers face-to-face, but I don't get too involved, because in the end they know what they are doing. I've been really lucky with Simon Fish, because he really understands what I want and he surfs really good, so he tests out new ideas himself.

What are your plans for the year? Hitting the WQS?
I'm going to start building up points and a seed on the WQS this year, just work towards my goal of being on the WCT and reaching the top. Also doing our Junior Series to do the @ World Junior Tour
What WQS events are you planning to do?
Right now I'm looking at doing Margret River and Tasmania, and I would really like to do all the O'Neill events, the Trestles event and Europe. I haven't planned too far ahead yet.
How do you feel about the change in the ASP judging criteria?
I think all the changes in surfing are positive. I feel my surfing suits the criteria. I'm confident the ASP is making good decisions and I feel I can fit in easily with the changes.
You’ve been to some pretty far flung destinations during the last few years. What’s one that has particularly blown you away?
I think the Philippines blew me away. It's just a really poor country with lots of poverty and bad times, but they all still seem happy and content with life.
What do you expect life on tour to be like ?
I'm really looking forward to life on tour, I've been waiting for ages to go on tour, so I think it's going to be insane travelling the world with my best friends, can't wait!
