Interview with Nikita Robb

How does it feel to have qualified?

Um, it feels pretty amazing I don't think it will actually hit me until I'm at the first event putting my rash vest on.

In 2009 you have been more consistent throughout the entire year, what have you done this year that was different from 2008?

This year was a weird year, on my 1st year on tour I had an amazing run so I put the pressure on for my 2nd year and that proved not to work for me so this year I just had fun. I took the pressure off and enjoyed surfing, traveling and being around my friends doing what I love.

Traveling on the WQS isn’t cheap and you managed to surf the 2009 tour without a major sponsor, how did you pull it off?

Good question - well I worked at the start of the year in Oz, at a Nursery doing gardening stuff. But mainly my parents helped me out, now I've got to work on paying them back. I'm really lucky to have parents that support my choices in life.

As far as training and strategy goes will you be implementing anything new into your attack before you set out on your rookie year on the WCT?

I think the key thing will be preparation, so I'll be working on boards, training hard and most important being mentally ready.

You and Rosy have both qualified for 2010 and we all remember Wendy Botha - what's up with Slumtown surfers (incl Greg and Royden) hitting
the big time ??

I don't really know what's up with that, maybe that they toughen you up in the 'Slump'. They make you strong which is important when you are doing long periods away from home or in a really crappy place. I also think the variety of waves in Slummies is something that has really helped all of us.

We all know you have a vicious backhand attack, and most of the events on the Women's WCT are held in predominately right hand breaks. Which events are you most looking forward to?

I got to say I'm looking forward to Bells Beach and Sunset. Those two events are the ones I'm most keen for - I love big powerful rights.

Awesome, Good luck from everyone at theBOMBsurf! We know you are going to smash 2010

Thanks guys, I'm super excited!

The surfboards are stacked and waiting next to our packed bags. I'm doodling on the guitar, John is sipping a cold Laurentina. The chick who's giving us a lift to the border said she'd be here in 5 minutes. That was 2 hours ago. It gives us plenty of time to reflect on the craziness of the last month, the last week, the last few days. I say crazy, but I mean it in the best sense of the word. Creat... <more>
