| Who blew up: |
1. Mick Fanning
|
Back to back victories in the last 2 WCT events, the White Lightening is on fire! But not only back to back events, but consider the fact that Mick had to overcoming Bede in his fourth heat of the day to claim the win - the second time he's had to surf 4 heats on the final day in the last 2 events.
Now that's BMT

2. Beyrick de Vries, Bianca Buitendag, Steven Sawyer, Benji Brand and Jordy Maree.
|
All the winners from the Billabong Pro Junior Series held at Vic Bay and Herolds Bay this last week. BMT is all about keeping a cool head and performing under pressure when it really counts. Winning is a habit - just ask Vince Lombardi.

| 3. Ryno |
| Ah, the sweet life. Ryno is the Coffee Bay Surf instructor, who has to apply all his skills in order to maintain the delicate balance between teaching surfing, going surfing, drinking ice cold beers in paradise and maintaing good rapport with the vast quantities of nubile females that flow through the Coffee Shack 365 days a year. A tough ask - but Ryno pulls through...somehow |

| And who blew it? |
3. The ASP judges at the Quik Pro
|
| Not sure what these boys had on their cornflakes every morning but the ASP might want to substitute the prozac for some mean European espresso. The Slater Pires match up is a case in point where they were throwing around 8's and 9's like they were yesterdays news. Go watch the heat, good surfing sure but very little variety and nothing above the lip. In my mind those were 6's and 7's. The other case in point is the Reynolds Durbridge round 4 match up. Bede surfs well, and gets the best waves but he doest the same turn again and again. Dane mixes it up, punts and loses... |

2. Kelly Slater
|
| Slater losing by 0.27 to Tiago Pires in the quarters, huh? To take nothing away from Pires who surfed wonderfully by any normal standards, but Slater surfed way within himself. Fast and crisp, sure, but sooo safe. I think Slater may have been lulled into a false sense of security by some dozey judging but that is no excuse for a guy who can conjure scores out of nothing. |

| 1. Joel Parkinson |
| Shew that pesky 17th isn't going to make Parko sleep any easier going into the Billabong Pro at Mundaka. That and the fact that The White Lightning has struck twice in as many weeks. His is still in the lead for the world title, but where he had one and a half hands on it this time two weeks ago now he's just looking at it wistfully from across the room. Fanning is in blistering form, Slater can never be discounted and Bede is making life painful for a lot of guys right now. Parko needed to put the nail in the coffin and twice he has fumbled. The fact of the matter is he has to raise his game to win or he will be overtaken by the pack of wolves on his heels. |
