Only 3 Saffas left to take out the MPP.

South Africa’s hopes of crowing a 2009 Mr Price Pro Ballito champion lie firmly in the hands of three talented KwaZulu- Natal South Coast surfers, all of whom advanced into the final 16 surfers during the R1.4 Million event this morning.

South African Open Men’s Champion Gavin Roberts (Scottburgh), WQS campaigner Rudy Palmboom (Bluff) and former South African Junior Champion Klee Strachan (Winkelspruit) are the last remaining South African surfers in this year’s 6 Star ASP World Qualifying Series Mr Price Pro Ballito and will fly the flag high, as they take on the world’s finest at the weekend.

Lucky breaks and narrow escapes.

MPP Day 3! And we have a cracker video for you today - We track the man of the moment Klee, we catch up with Rudy Jnr, Wok and Antonio. Go Saffas! All footage by Rich Hambloch.

North Coast Freight Train!

BOMBsurf regular contributor, Rich Hambloch was cruising the North Coast today and managed to shoot this clip of a pretty wild and crazy ocean. Some of these barrels are just plain dangerous!

With these conditions, the MPP event organisers ran 7 heats in the round of 144 - the highlight being Dale Staples perfect 10.

More epic conditions forecast for tomorrow! Enjoy.

Al Hunt of the ASP comments: "Just looking over the ratings after Cape Town and it seems there are eight guys doing the WQS tour that have any sort of chance in the ratings:  Logie, Jackson, Wright, Bryson, Fahrenfort, Palmboom, Redman and Basnett.
Of these Travis Logie is doing very well coming 6th and carrying three low scores he can easily replace.
A bit of  a jump to Brandon Jackson in 22nd who has even lower throw away scores so should be a big mover upwards with one or two good placings in the next 6 Star WQS events.
The remaining guys all need at least three equal 5th or better results to make any movement up the ratings.
With the Mr Price Pro on this week anything less than equal 5th for all of them will probably not be worth keeping.

So right now, South Africa's only other Professional surfer on Tour stares upwards into the face of the Mid-year cut-off. Travis must be a nervous guy. One heat. One heat at Teahupoo. He has to make this heat, or it's all over. Should Travis come second in his next 30 mins of surfing, he will be officially relegated back to the QS. What does this mean? Well for a start, it means no more guaranteed... <more>
