KZNSSL UPDATE: WEEK 4: 18 May 2012
By Glenn Harpur
The fourth week of the KwaZulu-Natal Schools Surfing League (KZNSSL) was, unfortunately, plagued by very small surf.
Nevertheless, with no fat ladies present to sing competition to an early close, the show went on in conditions reminiscent of the old WQS.
Thankfully, competitors were able to make something of the ankle-ticklers moving half-heartedly into the Dairy Bowl and, once again, the best shone. Northwood took the first heat, with a much-improved Westville team coming in a few points behind them, while a tactical error cost the DHS team five precious points that serve as an important reminder to all schools of just how strategically challenging tag-team surfing can be.
The second heat of the afternoon witnessed another display of dominant and sharp contest surfing from the very in-form Westbrook locals, Crawford North Coast "A", who sure are going to be hard to unseat come the end-of-season final.
Another huge thanks must go out to sponsors Skull Candy, Far King, Sanuk, and Aloe Up who keep kids stoked week after week with prices so rad it makes the teachers jealous!
