Friday 4 May saw the second round of KwaZulu-Natal Schools Surfing League heats take to the water in small but workable waves at Dairy Beach. Surfers arrived to a clean two-foot pulse bowling right and left over a sandbank very close to shore. This made for easy paddling and a relatively high wave-count, given the size of the swell.
Durban High School (DHS) dominated the first heat, with their first two surfers, L. De La Mott and D. Packham earning the highest-scoring rides of the heat and getting the team off to a lead that proved unassailable.
The second heat of the afternoon belonged to the Crawford North Coast “A” team, and, in particular, to its first surfer, Wade Simkiss, whose spritely attack perfectly suited the playful rights. Wade finished with the highest combined score of the afternoon and a new pair of Skull Candy headphones.
