Championship surfing, professional rivalries, life-changing parties and four weather seasons in one day are just a few examples of what goes down on Victoria’s Surf Coast over the Easter period and this year’s celebration will be no exception...
Reigning ASP World Champion and 2001 Rip Curl Pro winner Mick Fanning will be leading the Aussie assault at Bells, along with defending event champion Joel Parkinson and 2007 winner Taj Burrow. Nine-time ASP World Champ Kelly Slater will be searching for his fourth Rip Curl Pro title and three-time ASP World Champ Andy Irons is returning from a one-year break and keen for a third Bells win.
"It's going to be an exciting Easter! Every year I get really sucked in to the spirit of the contest, it has such a unique vibe about it because of its history." - Mick Fanning.
This year’s Rip Curl Women’s Pro presented by Ford Fiesta is fronting arguably the most exciting field of female surfers we’ve ever witnessed in Australia, headlined by reigning three-time ASP Women’s World Champion Stephanie Gilmore. Brazilian Silvana Lima comes to Bells as the defending event champion though, after ruining Gilmore’s try at three-straight Rip Curl Pro wins in the final last year.
"It was a little disappointing to lose that final last year, but all good things come in threes, so maybe I'll get my third Bell this year!" - Steph Gilmore.
