| What keeps us coming back for more? That initial hook, the instant fix? That long lasting high? |
 |
Blue is my favourite colour and not pink as Steve Tyler suggests in his popular song by the same name. The ocean is about rhythm and flow. Abilities which Antonio possesses in buckets. |

Were up on a hill overlooking one of Transkei's famous point breaks, and Matt Pallet decides to show off some his 'shadow break-dance' skills. There are so many fun characters in the surfing world |

When I shoot from the water I'm always thinking of shooting different angles and this image is an example of that. It's really fun to come out the back of the wave and have a quick look at the results |

There is nothing like being in the right spot at the right time and patiently waiting for the perfect wave to come to you. This is one of those moments where the butterflies start to race |

I was very fortunate to be invited on this shoot. The journey started in Durban, headed to the Transkei and then up to Mozambique. All over the period of a couple of days. Chris Leppan airing out his board |

This spot can split your face in half. It's even more challenging on your backhand and to see Jonathan go gliding past in a no rail grab pose really had me hooting |

Chris and Donavon a long way from their local, discussing who's going to get the first barrel in a country that will blow your legs off if you're not carefull |

This shoot with Heather was remarkable. We filmed previously in the day with no result and on the way back decided to try once more. We lucked in with this great image |

Ricky Basnett slotting into a glassy coastal barrel. A really intense surfer who can throw every move in the book and generally does so in the shortest surfs know to man |

North Beach offers quick and convenient waves, fast food if you like. Really handy for those after work sessions. Dane Logie tucking in |

You can draw your own lines on this wave. That's the great thing about surfing, everybody can imagine a different approach |

We went to check one of those nooks. Not going off on this day but this spot definitely has potential and a huge shark factor |

The bluff is a little like Hawaii's North Shore, raw power, good light and clean water bring photographic results. Matt Pallet fights fire with fire and strength for strength |

It's tricky making friends in new towns and people are generally suspicious of newcomers but Travis was really cool about showing me around East London. Travis Naude boosts at Nahoon Reef |

Dan is another versatile surfer who's always willing to work with guys shooting stills and video. I'm sure he invented the Savannah adverts, he has the driest humour ever |

Wow this was a difficult swim for this size swell. Water would just wrap down the point and wash you out of position the whole time. Beyrick connecting on a wave the colour of swimming pools |

We all experience it in varying degrees and we all strive to achieve that initial high for the rest of our lives. Richard's first ‘print’ fix was a photo of Michael Grendon doing a backhand floater which ran in BLUNT magazine. “There is just something special about seeing your image in context, in print, on a website or even framed and up on the wall. It seems like it belongs, more purposeful” says Richard.
Richard first picked up a camera during his high school years, dad’s trusty Pentax. He still has it to this day as well as every camera body and lens he has owned since then. Although photography is not Richard's mainstay he has immersed himself in a discipline that is demanding, yet very rewarding. Being an avid surfer, surf photography was a natural extension for Richard and the results have followed.
