| I started surfing properly when I was in high school, making WP a few times and won most of the Junior Girls events around Cape Town and made the National Junior Team once. I took up longboarding thanks to Brenton Geach when I was about 17. I totally sucked at first but the vibes were good so I stuck at it and now I think I am starting to get it.
I have been to some pretty cool places with my longboard (mostly without thanks to airway blunders) to compete in the Women's World Longboard Champs. Costa Rica, France and Cardiff Reef I managed to place in the top 10 in the world, at all 3 events, but travelling sucks and I dont really dig competing, so I prefer to hang here and dress up like a hooded teletubby and play locally. I started shooting video with Alan when I was pregnant with Manoa (now 9) and wasn't really that into it,but shot video whenever Alan surfed as that was generally when it was too big or heavy for me and I had no reason not to. Then in 2006 Alan got me my own camera so I could do my own thing. Wow I so sucked for what felt like forever. But I really enjoyed shooting stills so I stuck at it and every now and then I get a nice shot. Now I split my time surfing in the mornings unless its huge or crap then I shoot or play on my laptop. The afternoons are spent taking kids places, shooting surfing, surfing and usually tons of skating too.At night I work part time at the Foodbarn Tapas in Noordhoek. We are building a bowl in the yard and a mini half pipe for me and Griffin so we hang local mostly. As soon as Griffin is in the water my life will return to normal and I can surf all day...work some nights. Basically I want to surf more and spend my time doing what I love with the ones I enjoy hanging with and so on... |

This day was 10ft plus at the Kom and super washy so I went up the hill to get a few. Didn't get anything great at the Kom but managed to mind surf Kelly Slater onto a few gems that broke at the Boiler. |
One of those perfect evening sessions, light berg wind golden light and perfect 3ft peelers. |
This day was crazy windy,we went to look at the fire in Kommetjie from Chappies and I took my camera. BG,Deen Hill and Pierre were out so I found a less windy spot in a ditch down from the Chappies and waited patiently. Got a few sweet different angle frames and left pretty quickly. |
I really love to bust out on a shortboard but generally ride a longboard for warmth, to catch waves in the crowds and avoid being low on the food chain. |
Last week we had some pretty fun waves at the Kom but the one that really grabbed me was this right. This guy got some insane pits that he made but I wasn't paying enough attention to capture any. The mist was shocking so managed to get a few between mist banks. The 2 frame seq shows the potential. Nuff said. |

Manoa floating Longbeach. I spend one hell of a lot of time shooting longbeach and seem to get a couple of my own grom having a joll from time to time. |
It so rocks to have a drink and snack at the Bell whilst shooting silly folk being brave. Never a dull moment. |
This is the view from the hill on a huge day. I think the rip would wash any take outs to Mexico. Bloody perfect for a very fit pro or possibly tow in. |
Shot from under the subway cos it was raining. Perfect Reef. |
His style is a pleasure too. He manages to mix up big power turns, barrels and airs with ease. |
This grom is totally insane on his backhand. I shot a sequence of him later this day from Albatross getting totally shacked for ever and coming out. Respect! |
The Boiler on the same day as the first slide but taken a little while later from a bit down the hill. I wish people would surf it like this but fear for their lives. |
Me hanging 10 at Longbeach. Alan shoots still every now and then so they arent just of him and Manoa. Sharing the love. |
. We shoot the Hoek one hell of a lot mainly due to the fact that I am lazy and the angles are really cool to. I love to walk around while shooting the Hoek to vary my angle on things. BG always punt a coulpe at least! |
This is one of the spots we trash our boards at. But we always have fun here. Manoa spends a lot of time going left growing up in Kommetjie. |
Longbeach shorey is the perfect spot to get your fins out and the recover quickly. This grom is also great to watch style wise and often hits longbeach. |

This day the Reef was maxing and a bit of a bad swell direction. I saw Bromdog paddle over to the right so decided to keep a close eye. The first one I saw him get was a monster that literally ate him. Thinking he would surely not try again after the beating he just had I was amazed when he got this one. This spot is surfed a bit but this day was special. Only a bloody capable, brave mullet would even be out there. Go Bromdog! |

The lefts were pretty heavy too as you can see. Josh has this place wired as you can see. I usually dont shoot the Reef cos there are more than enough photogs there on any given swell. When its huge I make a plan. |
He manages Pipe and you can see how. I seem to remember this one obliterating him |

Me and Manoa going for a ave together at Longbeach. I really love surfing with him just to feed off his crazy amp and energy. Sharing the stoke of surfing and skating with your grom is the best thing any human could ever have!

Me 360 I love to get my longboard fins out. Apart from hanging 10 nothing beats it. I should probably start surfing real waves and stop playing the fool! NOT! |

Griffin and Manoa at Mistys on one of our countless evening outing there. They love the beach and seem ok with the lifestyle they have. They play in,on and under the rocks while Alan and I shoot. |
