It's heroes and villains galore...

Who Blew Up

1. Grant Twiggy Baker.

The Volcom Fiji Pro was called off on what turned out to be one of the greatest days of surfing in the history of the world ever, and a few top 32 surfers paddled out to join the hardcore big wave chargers who had flown in to meet the swell. Kala Alexander, Reef McIntosh and Ramon Navarro were dominating until Twiggy Baker dropped into a dark hole, held his rail and his line and emerged from one of the waves of the day on the day of the year to the screams of the commentators. Twiggy arrived unannounced, made name and made us proud in the process.

2. Nick Godfrey.

The reason why Nick was absent from the Billabong SA Champs this year was because he was super busy. Nick and Ben Godfrey were putting the finishing touches onto their new and improved Full Stop Pub in Seal Point. 'The Fully" is a national treasure amongst surfers from around the country, and many surfers were rejoicing on the reopening. Trading has been brisk, and there have been many old faces and some new ones pulling in. If you're in town on the weekend then you probably have to go to Full Stop Friday, when they have live bands and drinks specials. Brandy most likely. It is the Eastern Cape where weekends are filled up with rugby, brandy and the odd fight.

3.  Matt Hoy.

On a whim Matt jumped on a plane from Australia to come and hang in South Africa with good mate Craig Anderson, here on a filming mission. Hoyo's mission happened to coincide with a ferocious cold snap across the country, which just happened to result in some firing pointbreak surf for the hard-charging beer drinking, and along with Ando they scored some firing Supers and a few other cranking waves in amongst the wind, the rain and the squalls. Hoy's forehand hacks on big windy faces have to be seen to be believed.

And Who Blew It?

  1. Matt Wilson.

In all fairness to Matt, who we know and like, when he made the decision to call off the surfing on the big day at the Volcom Fiji Pro, the waves at Cloudbreak were big and very dangerous, and he had the backing of all the surfers present. Slater even agreed that it was kak - the surfers do get to have their say in such situations. How was he to know that mere minutes later it would transform into one of biggest and best days of surfing in the history of the world.

  2. The parents of one of the finalists in the Billabong SA Champs who have been harping on about the results of their child's final.

There were five judges. Four judges awarded the win to one person and one judge gave it to the other person. This is not rocket science. She came second.  Interfering in these things does nothing for the surfing careers of your children. Did I say 'she?'
Oopsy.

   3.  The top 32 surfers who stayed in the bar in Fiji while Cloudbreak was having the 'Day Of Days' during the Volcom Pro.

C'mon guys. You're the best surfers in the world, and everyone was paddling in. Not a ski or tow-team in site. You could have given it a go. Surfers like Adam Melling and Bede Durbidge, who are both not known for big wave prowess, gave it horns in their heat. Having said that, we would have been in the bar as well, most likely too scared to even be in the channel on a boat.

This is indeed an inteserting post, Ken. I believe I came across that particular ad in one of my surfing feats. I, for one, am a marketer and a serious one at that. I'm also a surfer, albeit not a power surfer. I do a lot of surfing to earn credits for my sites as well as to get to see ads to know what's trending and to chat at some sites where I've made a few friends. The latter makes it more fun for me to surf on a daily basis. I agree with Professor Cue Ball Clicks. There are lots of traffic exchanges out there. But I do have favorites where I surf on a daily basis. This is a great site! Keep the articles coming guys!Rain
