Disappointing in Durbs, A clear head and big balls needed in The Kei, some options in PE and barrels in The Mother City on Friday.

19/02/2012
20 Feb - 27 Feb
Pick of the bunch: Disappointing in Durbs, A clear head and big balls needed in The Kei, some options in PE and barrels in The Mother City on Friday.
DBN: Despite the cauldron of activity east of Durban in the vicinity of Madagascar, the net result a couple of thousand km’s away in DBN is not that great. Best bets on Tues and Friday, but don’t hold your breath for anything epic.
COFFEE BAY: It is a fun week for surfing in The Capital of The Parallel Universe, but keep an eye for Thurs/Friday when a solid swell hits the points. You’ll need to have a clear head and big balls to face the jump offs in some solid 8ft surf. The flip side is that if that’s the kind of thing that floats your boat, it will be all yours... and the sharks.
EL: The best bet should be Friday morning. It will be solid, but should be pretty good too.
PE: Monday, Thursday and Friday might all have a few options, not a bad week in PE.
CT: Keep an eye on Thursday and Friday. Thursday early the Atlantic reefs may have some options, by Friday it’s the beachies that like a South Easter. No doubt some barrels on offer this week.

Congrats on the blog, Pam! It looks fulbuoas, as does your cover. I've been blogging for about a year now (on my own site as well as on History Hoydens) and I really enjoy it. I loved your old almost blog posts, so I'm looking forward to more insightful comments. And as someone who also loves websurfing, it's great to have a new blog to visit .And your cover is just stunning!

This week the travelling surfer scores in KZN while Wednesday lights up both Slummies and CT.

12/02/2012

13 Feb - 20 Feb
Pick of the bunch: This week the travelling surfer scores in KZN while Wednesday lights up both Slummies and CT.
DBN: Small but surfable all week, but good conditions from Thurs to Sat. The new SSW swell which arrives Thursday isn’t going to make much of an impact on the Golden Mile, but it might be worth casting your eye further afield north or south for some pretty decent coastal options.
COFFEE BAY: After a weekend of cooking surf Coffee Bay keeps cranking until Thursday, by which time the onshore is up and it is time to retire to the Buffalo Bar in the Coffee Shack for some much needed R&R.
EL: Following on from a pretty decent weekend Slummies has a good start to the week, with Wed looking like the berries. By Thursday midday a gnarly easterly flow settles in for a few days so get your surfing done in the early part of the week if you can.
PE: Your best shot is Wed, but it doesn’t look like a great week in the Bay this week.
CT: It is a typical summer week in The Mother City, with the Southeaster dominating the proceedings as usual. Fortunately you get a little push on Wed into Thurs that should help light up the beachies for a wind blown barrel or two.

You guys lose a lot of credibility by shamelessly punting the coffee shack all the time. I know Coffee Bay gets good surf, but when it's bad you guys really need to just tell it like it is. I don't hear you guys talking about the "good vibes" in Durbs when the east is pumping.

Where is the above picture taken, Betty's Bay Area?

I agree about Coffee Bay. I mean, come on guys! The surf there is seldom worthy of a punt. I stop off there with my wife every year so I have some local knowledge. It's good to punt a mates establishment but it REALLY gets boring after a while.... "Keep it real" - Isn't that more in line with your motto?

Cool pick, taken quite some years ago..

6 Feb - 13 Feb
Pick of the bunch: The party is over in DBN, but Coffee Bay and Slummies cook.
DBN: OK Boys and girls, the party is over. A very average week ahead with bare scraps on offer. Thursday morning and Sat arvo look like the best bets. A good week to catch up on work or do some laps in the pool.
COFFEE BAY: Coffee Bay fires on Wed and Thurs, backs off on Friday and then cooks again on Sat. Not a bad week in the Kei.
EL: Shew next weekend looks pretty fun. Its going to be solid on Sat and could be cooking on Sunday am. Enjoy.
PE: Tuesday arvo could be interesting and then keep an eye on next Sat which could produce a couple of options too.
CT: Late Friday into Saturday could be interesting. Spots that like a southerly swell direction and a strong SE wind will be the go.

Hi Dimakatso. You sound like a ralely enthusiastic debater! Are you a member of your high school's debating club? The way to qualify for provincial and national teams is to compete with your school team in the provincial league. In Johannesburg, the league is organised by SACEE the South African Council for English Education. You can find league contact details on the page. Admin

Funso winds down and Slummies heats up midweek.

29/01/2012

30 Jan - 6 Feb
Pick of the bunch: Slummies heats up midweek with multiple options in decent offshore conditions.
DBN: A feisty start to the week rounds off cyclone Funso’s offering. Monday and Wed which come with great swell also unfortunately come with onshore winds. Tuesday is the day.
COFFEE BAY: Apart from some leftover easterly on Monday, the rest of the week offers clean waves ranging from 6ft down to a fun 3ft with epic conditions, enjoy.
EL: Tues, Wed and Thurs Slummies looks fun with multiple options in decent offshore conditions.
PE: Not much to get you guys excited this week, you’ll have to make do with the ripples.
CT: A typical Summer SE dominated week in The Mother City. Best bet will be late Tuesday into Wed for the SE offshore beachbreaks.

Yeah you'll find there is a lot of dfcferenie especially if you go body boarding on a regular basis. But if you're just looking at starting out and riding the waves occasionally you can't go wrong with the Airwalk Swell.

Cyclone Funso creates a wavepark for Durban

22/01/2012

23 Jan - 30 Jan
Pick of the bunch: Durbs for consistent fun waves, warm water and a nice little ‘Funso’ sting in the tail at the end of the week.
DBN: Not a bad week ahead for Surf City. Fun small waves dominate the first half of the week and then a decent push of cyclone swell fills in next weekend courtesy of Cyclone Funso’s antics in the Mozambican channel. Next sat looks like the best bet.
COFFEE BAY: Oh my word you are loving life if you are in Coffee Bay this week. Beautiful daily surf options through the weekdays and some really firing options next weekend. Great weather, warm clean water and apparently the Coffee Shack Surf Guide job is up for grabs. If you think you have what it takes to be the next Coffee Shack Surf Guide email your CV to wackypt@iafrica.com
EL: Fun waves to surf daily but nothing epic all week.
PE: There should be small fun waves Monday to Wed in the Bay, nothing epic but enough to keep you out of the gym.
CT: Luckily you guys had your waves last week because this week is gonna suck. Your best option would be to go join Dutchie on the golf course.

Coffee Bay must be the most consistent surf spot on earth. Either that or someone's embellishing....

Luckily I don't have a boss that can bust me when I go for a round of golf!

@Rich bru have you ever been to Coffee Bay? I know it sounds too good to be true, but seriously it is the trapdoor you need to fall through to get into the parallel universe. @Dutchie you are lucky there are no web cams on the Milnerton Golf Course or your reputation would be shot to shreds and your misssus would be giving you a good klap every time you got home...

Only one way to find out champ. . . . . but from what i'm hinerag it sounds just like someone saying there good at riding a bike and can wonder if they can ride a motorcycle. So I would say yes. You can also start out by surfing towards the shore which will be easier that standing up on a body-board. Then progress to surfing into the wave like you see most people do.
