bids would go out shortly and cntstrucoion was expected to begin in the spring of 2011 on Swann Bridge, the first of the three to be repaired. He estimated it would be 12 to 18 months from the time cntstrucoion begins in spring 2011 for renovations to be completed on all three bridges. No specific dates for the bridges to reopen to traffic are available at this time. While the bridges themselves are closed to traffic, it is still possible to drive to them on both sides, except for Swann Bridge, which is only accessible from the north side at present. I will be posting alternate directions for the two ride loops that will bypass the bridges while still riding close enough to view them en route. These directions will involve some backtracking for Swann Bridge, but not for Easley and Horton Mill bridges. These bridge closings will affect two rides in the book: Ride Loop 9 (Blount County Covered Bridge Ride) and Ride Loop 10 (Blount County Covered Bridge Dual-Sport Ride). For Ride Loop 9, use the following amended driving directions while the bridges are closed:Turn 1 to Turn 10 Use the turns as shown on the map in the bookTurn 11 Easley Bridge will be immediately to your right, but instead of the right turn to cross the bridge you'll TURN LEFT here on Easley Bridge Road and go 1.1 miles.Turn 12 Right on 7 Bark Lane and go 2 milesTurn 13 Right on CR-33 and go 2.1 milesTurn 14 Left on U.S. Hwy 231 and go 3.7 milesTurn 15 Right to stay on U.S. Hwy 231 and go 0.3 milesTurn 16 Left on Swann Bridge Road and go 1.3 miles. Here you will be at a parking area where the road is blocked 0.2 miles from the bridge. You can park here and walk to see the bridge.Turn 17 Turn around here and go 0.9 milesTurn 18 Right on Hwy 79 and go 0.7 milesTurn 19 Right on Hwy 160 and go 17.9 milesTurn 20 Right on Skyline Drive and go 2.5 milesTurn 21 Right on Rickwood Caverns Road and go 1.4 miles back to the Start/End point. For Ride Loop 10, use the following amended driving directions while the bridges are closed:Turn 1 to Turn 13 Use the turns as shown on the map in the bookTurn 14 Left on Swann Bridge Road and go 1.6 miles to Swann Bridge. This brings you to the north side of the river where the bridge is blocked off. It's a nice place to walk around and take a break (or have lunch).Turn 15 Backtrack the 1.6 miles back to Joy RoadTurn 16 Left on Joy Road and go 2.3 milesTurn 17 Left on Nectar Circle and go 0.6 milesTurn 18 Left on Hwy 160 and go 2.7 milesTurn 19 Left on U.S. Hwy 231 and go 350 feetTurn 20 Right on 5 Points Road (which becomes Cold Branch Road) and go 8.5 milesTurn 21 Left on CR-57 and go 0.8 milesTurn 22 Right on CR-26 and go 0.2 milesTurn 23 Right on Hwy 75 and go 3.2 milesTurn 24 Left on Covered Bridge Circle and go 0.7 milesTurn 25 Right on Covered Bridge Circle and go 1 mile to Horton Mill Bridge (on the right)Turn 26 Continue on Horton Mill Bridge Road (which becomes Ebell Road) and go 5.6 miles (Easley Bridge is to your right here)Turn 27 Left on Easley Bridge Road and go 1.1 milesTurn 28 Right on 7 Bark Lane and go 2 milesTurn 29 Left on CR-33 and go 2 milesTurn 30 Left on CR-1 and go 1.4 milesTurn 31 Right on Tim King Road and go 3.3 milesTurn 32 Left on Deavers Town Road and go 1.6 milesTurn 33 Right on CR-15 and go 1.1 milesTurn 34 Left on Hwy 79 and go 0.5 milesTurn 35 Right on CR-13 and go 4.6 milesTurn 36 Left on Hwy 160 and go 6.8 milesTurn 37 Right on CR-7 and go 4.2 milesTurn 38 Left on U.S. Hwy 31 and go 0.8 milesTurn 39 Right on CR-5 and go 4.1 miles back to the Start/End point

Peg Street Kings - 9 August 2012

20/07/2012

Race Info

Peg plans to bring an extremely new and exciting event to the Durban Community. The event will consist of the fast growing and ever popular Longboard Skating. Peg plans to bring an event that will include the whole community and promote healthy living and alternate transport.

The event, “Peg Street Kings”, will be a one day downhill extravaganza. Races include professional categories where the best will be touching on 70Km/h on a skateboard through tight chicanes, to recreational leagues and even races for kids.

Expression session’s will blow away the crowds when riders enter a demarcated area at speeds up to 60km/h and proceed to do insane slides with their gloves skimming off the tar as they push the boundaries.
The event will be open to all riders of all ages, sizes and skill. Each of the 3 events will be broken into different age groups and divisions. We will start the age groups from Under 10 all the way up to open divisions and even a Masters division to attract all the dads and moms who still think they have it.

Top speeds of over 70km/h are expected, plus crazy slide action like this! ©Peg

All skaters taking part will receive a Goodie bag (Contents & value to be confirmed)
Road Closure has been scheduled to accommodate the competition.
All Competitors will be required to compete in a certified helmet.

Event Requirements

This Event will require full road closure of the South Heading (Beach Heading) Side of Danville Avenue in Durban North, KwaZulu Natal. Danville Avenue has two separate roads both being dual carriage ways. By turning the North Heading (Away from Beach) road into a dual carriage way allowing traffic to flow in both directions it will alleviate the need for the South Heading road usage, thus allowing closure of the road.
For the residents we will have marshals at each entrance on the road to allow residents entry and exit into their properties in a respectable manner. Marshals will all be equipped with radio devices allowing constant communication channels to all parts of the road.
Race Safety: Hay bales will be situated on all dangerous sections on the road. All corners will have hay Bales on them to protect the riders and spectators. Trees and other immovable
obstacles will be covered with Hay bales to prevent injury to the riders and damage to the obstacles.
Each Rider will only be permitted to race once a full indemnity is signed. Strict safety rules will be enforced, each rider taking part in the event will require a certified helmet to be able to compete.
Paramedics will be at the event the entire day to handle any injuries that might occur.
Portable ablution facilities will be required at least two points on the road for spectators and Riders.
We would also bring in Food vendors to the event to provide the necessary nutrients for the riders and public.
Entertainment will be required in forms of a speaker and PA systems, MC’s and bands will add to the overall atmosphere by interacting with the crowd and keeping them involved with the happenings of the event and to keep the crowd entertained.

Thank you Winged Riders for your Toy Run. I appreciate your gnrteosiey. My husband and I just rode with our Paradise Chapter here in Naples Florida for the Bikers for Babies on November 6th. We had over 1500 bikers and raised over $140,000.00. We can never thank the community enough for their gnrteosiey. I love Artesia and am proud to have been born and raised there. Keep up the good work.

Wonderful is the first thing I must say about these sun glasses. I have owned and operated quite a few places nonetheless they became constantly low price places. Effectively, I chosen to look at some type of an important chance and purchasing further a doubly very expensive two of. I think he got a 9.something for that second ride with other lsseer rides in that round getting tens. They reckon the judges didn't see him exit the second barrel as it was too far down the point! Should have been an easy 10!
