Really costly. Ouch. I was exetcping much lower prices for data plans, due to the introduction of a horde of affordable smarphones, but heck, they just seem to go north.I've been ranting about this here for quite sometime now. lol. I just really see a huge market that needs to be explored. I mean, there are quite a number of people who have at least GPRS or EDGE phones, why not capitalize on that.Leave DSL, Cable, or maybe WiMax to take care of residential connections. Focus more on mobile internet access to be more affordable.

Hey Todd! It was great to meet you yesterday as I took my maedin voyage in my brand new, very own kayak out at Raccoon River Park. It was so very peaceful on the water last night not to mention great upper body workout. Perfect end to the weekend and I can't wait to go again. I have a funny coincidence for you: I grew up in LeMars, Iowa with Nate Hoogeveen!

Just received my Canon ELPH 100 HS {orange} and I atlelubosy love it. The camera boots up almost instantly. Installed a 16GB SDHC class 10 card and now have 5000+ 12MB photo capacity or 60 minutes for HD video. The image stabilization at max digital zoom 4X4/16x works great! The camera easily fits in my pocket and is very light @ ~5 ounces.

If it weren't for my guitar and my music - life would have been a lot more difficult - that is what I am most certain about. Surfing keeps me sane, but when the sun goes down, my guitar maintains that sanity. Its the best gift you could give yourself, to learn how to play.

Posted by Mark Becker on the 02/05/2012 08:42
I always wanted to know how it feels to smash a guitar :P this would be the perfect pressie for me to trash on the pier just before I jump over for a surf

Review by S. Hart for Rating: I've had several dieffrent types of bottle holders before but they always allowed the bottle to sweat and wet my clothes. After noticing the bottle holder that the cast members at Disney World had, I started looking for one like it. At first I didn't think I was going to find one, but this one is great. It keeps the liquid cold and doesn't let my clothes get wet. Great!!

Review by Wallace Jake Seay Jr. for Rating: Have been carrying water to baelabsl games, and water in bottle gets hot. While at Disney a couple of weeks ago, saw life guards and other employees carrying water bottle in a clip, insulated holder. Searched and found these items. Have already used several time. Information says that holder will hold temperature for about 4 hours. From what we have seen so far, the neoprene keeps the bottles cold for much greater than 4 hours. Pleased with item. Stretch and fold over top make easy use of different bottles.

Review by H. Sapiens for Rating: I am giving this 5 stars beuacse it does what it is supposed to do stand upright while you load it up with bottles of every size. It has yet to tip, even with a curious cat about and being overloaded with some oversized glass bottles. An additional plus is that it comes apart for storage. The drip tray underneath is more than adequate and the base very sturdy ours actually is green, completing the holiday ensemble. Perhaps a not-so-red color would have been more easy on the eyes, but, hey, it's a conversation piece!

theBOMBsurf: Dutchie, Tell us about the WCBR club - how, when and why did it start?

Dutchie: It started as a result of a lack of events for the kids to compete in, due to budget cuts the surf brands are putting up less and less events. So myself, Adrian Fields, Wesley Zondagh and Ryan Payne got together and decided to start a club.

What is the purpose of what you do as the WCBR? Is it just about getting together to surf or is there an environmental angle, a social responsibility angle etc?

Our main goal is to develop and grow surfing as a sport and bring the community together through various club and social events. We also offer coaching and guidance for the youth.

Other than the contests we have also done development days for the underprivileged and also a paraplegic surfing day were people that would not regularly have the opportunity now also receive the stoke. We also have a  environmental responsibility as a club were all members get involved in beach cleanups and animal rescues or any matter regarding our surfing environment.

Personally, yourself as Josh, why did you take it upon yourself to do this in your spare time? Aren't you really hectic as a shaper and a graphic designer to run around organizing these events? Or is it also good for business?

I just felt like the right thing to do, I have vast knowledge, insight and experience in all matters surfing and wanted to share that with the next generation of surfers. And yes I have a hectic schedule and no spare time and do all these events for no income, but I do it for the love of surfing which has given me so much in return. Regarding my own surfboard business I think it’s good, my team riders get to compete more and win, and hopefully people notice that. But that’s not why I do it!

Have you been pleased with the results or your work? What has been the best and worst of the WCBR to happen so far?

The results have been amazing, the first event for 2012 we had 76 entries. Every event so far has been a success, the people love them, everybody gets together hangs out and surfs and shares a good time, rain or shine. We also do social events such as surf movie premiers, braai’s and fundraisers and those are also very well attended, once we had over 350 people at the Lost Atlas premier.

The worst has been my friend Wesley Grey that had a back injury and we had to rush him to hospital, luckily it wasn’t too serious but we all got a big fright that day.

What are your current thoughts on the surf industry, with the Billabong Pro in JBay being downgraded, the surf fashion brands struggling at a retail level, surf companies being offloaded and the general decline in the popularity in surf brands? Is it relevant to surfing as a sport and what you do?

Globally the surf industry is taking a knock for sure, and in an even smaller South African market things are not looking any better. In any business or industry after a recession there will be downscaling and budget cuts which is sad, but hey that’s life.

Even the ASP is trying to go for crowd attendance as opposed to quality of waves for the surfers witch sucks because it goes against the very thing that surfing is all about, I personally would rather see great performances from surfers in good waves.

I think it’s bad that the Billabong Pro is downgraded because J-bay is such a special wave and not some Brazilian beach break were there are a zillion ugly frothers looking for points and ratings. The wave deserves more, it deserves Jordy, Parko and Kelly.

Thanks Dutchie, and good luck with the WesKus Boardriders!

iain

Ive been surfing for 2 years now amoslt everyday with the exception of deployments and have found that the waves that you paddle into the most determine what you grow accoustomed to and or comfortable with, if you only ride 3-4 and call it a day at 4-8 you will never get used to the larger sets I rode 2-4 for a long time and would cringe at bigger waves until i forced myself to paddle on them, initially ill admit it was spooky droping in and i got rolled up and crushed a few times but now that i have subjected myself to the size i have gotten used to, it i still prefer 3-5 but overhead no longer sends me home.
