Surf Alerts

Multiple options on both coasts as a strong SW swell makes landfall from Wednesday.

27/05/2012

21 May - 28 May
DBN: Durban has fun surfable waves all week, with warm and unusually clean water to complete the ‘Surf City’ picture.
COFFEE BAY: Apart from Monday which is onshore the rest of the week cooks. Keep an eye on the Points on Thursday as there will be some solid options for the brave.

EL: Wed and Friday cook, but Thursday may be too big for the regular spots.
PE: Thursday is the day for you guys, probably better in the arvo once the wind swings SW, expect some decent swell to go with it.
CT: Wednesday and Thursday are going to have some solid options around the peninsula in SE winds. You might want to dust off that big wave gun...

C'mon Cammar, let's start seeing some of those turns you need to be wirnokg on. Just kidding, looks greet. Here in So Cal we are starting to see some of that energy from the south. Now if we can only get both swells to meet, we'll get some huge peaks.

you're making that up. (But I beveile you). We've evacuated to Spring. Hunkering down and preparing for a long day of eating up the food in the fridge before the power goes out. My favorite hurricane prep activity. :)Stay safe. ~Beth

@m16mangActually, yes they are. The games and the books have refered to the Spartans as Cyborgs on neurmous occasions. I think people simply don't know what Cyborg means and automatically assume I mean Robot. No, a Cyborg is an organic life form that uses technology to enhance itself. Such as implanting a computer into your brain which then interfaces with a mechanical suit to increase strength and stamina.

Decent surf from CT to KZN in the early part of the week on the back of the last cold front.

21/05/2012

21 May - 28 May
DBN: Monday and Tuesday are the days, then it gets really small for the rest of the week.
COFFEE BAY: Monday is SOLID and cranking on all the points in The Kei, Tues-Thurs looks more manageable and fun.

EL: Monday is probably too big in most of the regular spots, you are going to have to look in the little wrap around set ups to find something manageable. Then Tuesday looks more manageable and fun before the swell peters out for the rest of the week.
PE: Monday sees some leftovers from the weekend’s burst of swell, then it is pretty much flat the rest of the week.
CT: Monday has some decent swell and light SE winds on the back of the last front, then keep an eye on Friday for a pert little west swell pulse with NW winds.

The Transkei and Eastern Cape Fire later in the week and Cape Town gets ready for some real swell.

13/05/2012

7 May - 14 May
DBN: Small but fun surf with great weather all week, but keep an eye on Thursday. There is a super long period (16sec) swell which could create some beautiful waves between the long lulls.

COFFEE BAY: Tuesday right through till next Sunday cranks in The Kei. Yeooow!

EL: A great week for surf in Slummies. Cooking waves Tues to Fri, with Sat getting seriously big and Sunday not too shabby either. Bring on winter!
PE: Get your stuff sorted in the early part of the week because next weekend is going to cook.
CT: There is a little pulse on Monday, followed by a second bigger one Friday-Sunday, enjoy!

Hey Nick, first off congrats to your great site, very invtamroife! I am coming to CT in November and would like to ask your advice on two things:1.what surfing spots would you recommend that are relatively empty ? They dont need to be very close to the city, they dont need to have the best conditions. The reason is I hate surfing with crowds (most of all aggressive crowds) and I dont want to step on anybodies toes or piss of some hardcore locals (as I learned from your blog, these things do exist in CT, I always had the impression that in South Africa this wasnt too bad). I am just looking for some good time in the water with nice (and preferably few;-) people.2.In line with that I am wondering where to stay. Do you know of any good hostel or B&B that is in a convenient location to reach above described spots? Does not have to be directly in the city either, just something nice and relaxed, maybe with good food around?Thank you.Gerd

Slummies and the KZN coast fire on Monday morning and PE gets skunked.

06/05/2012

7 May - 14 May
DBN: Monday morning on the coast could be fun, then there will be small but surfable waves all week in between the piers.
COFFEE BAY: Super fun waves all week in the Capital of the Parallel Universe with some great weather thrown in. Winter waves, summer weather – you can’t beat that!

EL: Monday morning fires, then if you know where to look out of town on Thursday and Friday could be pretty fun.
PE: Sorry guys prepare yourselves for a bit of a skunking this week.
CT: Monday morning there could be some leftovers then it looks pretty average for the rest of the week to be honest.

Hi Mango People! An astronomical THANK YOU to the sevirce provided at Cape Town Airport, 23 July, Durban to Cape Town Flight JE379. Rory Mitchell, my son who is a regular Mango flyer who is studying Medicine at UCT, landed in CT and discovered that another passenger had mistakenly taken his bag from the carousel. A Mango Man called Lunga traced my sons bag and returned it to him, completely in tact. Rory was very well assisted by Mango staff in that he was taken through to the office and offered something to drink whilst Lunga went in search of his luggage. Great sevirce from a great airline.
