She'd install stricter fishing regulations and ride a longboard. |
| 30/03/2012 |

Hi Juls and welcome to theBOMBshell interview. When you think of surfing what is the very first thought that pops into your mind?
Umdloti beach…early sunrise…there are so many surfers out. Its beautiful to see.
Lets talk swimwear on girls, what do think works well and what should be avoided at all costs?

Julie: Nothing looks better than girl who looks comfortable in her bikini… Girls need to pick bikini’s according to their body shape…big girl in string bikini is a no no…
Boardshorts on guys, above or below the knee?
Above the knee is great….but not ‘short’ shorts!
If you are/were a surfer what surfboard would you/do you ride? An ancient Hawaiian hand made wooden Alaia, a cruisy fun colourful old school longboard or a modern high performance short board?
Julie: Old school longboard…awesome!

Lets talk epic beach party’s for a moment... A full moon rising over the sea, sundowners, a mellow jam session (who would be playing?), what would it take to escalate into the mother of all beach parties?
Ard Matthews from Just Jinjer would be playing the mellow jam session, followed by Fatboy slim on the decks, girls in bikini’s, guys in their boardies and a whole lot of Long Island Ice Teas!
Skinny-dipping, yes or no?
Yes, with my man…
If you had the opportunity to spend time in the ocean with any sea creature what would it be and why?
A dolphin obviously…every girl wants to swim with dolphins.
If you could make one contribution to help protect our marine and beach resources and preserve them for future generations what would it be?
To try and instill stricter fishing regulations, so that we don’t lose our marine life as fast as we are.
Thank you Juls we look forward to seeing you on the beach soon or maybe riding longboard at a surf break nearby soon. For being so cool we’re stoked to offer you both a free surfing lesson from Learn 2 Surf (just call Ant on 083 4140567 or check out www.learn2surf.co.za) and an awesome bikini from Kulu (go to http://kuluswimwear.co.za, choose one and send us your size and we’ll get them to send you one if they have stock).
Wow thanks guys, see you on the beach soon!

Hi Janien and welcome to theBOMBshell interview. When you think of surfing what is the very first thought that pops into your mind?
People, sunshine, happiness..
Lets talk swimwear on girls, what do think works well and what should be avoided at all costs?
I find a one-piece swimsuit is the most flattering on any body type and it holds everything in place... What to avoid: anything too tight
Boardshorts on guys, above or below the knee?
I’m going with above the knee.
If you are/were a surfer what surfboard would you/do you ride? An ancient Hawaiian hand made wooden Alaia, a cruisy fun colourful old school longboard or a modern high performance short board?
Id love to try the ancient Hawaiian wooden board...lol! Learning to surf for the first time it might be cool to experience some of the history first, just for a laugh.

|
Lets talk epic beach party’s for a moment... A full moon rising over the sea, sundowners, a mellow jam session (who would be playing?), what would it take to escalate into the mother of all beach parties?
What would make a beach party epic? A blue drink and a pair of gum boots. Assuming that you already spent the whole day on the beach, you probably don’t want sand between your toes at night. In terms of music who would I like to listen to? Anyone with a guitar and raw talent. Preferably someone who is not famous yet...nothing like sitting around a fire and someone busts out with their own music and totally blows you away, and you’re thinking who is this person? Sign him up!!
Skinny-dipping, yes or no?
Yes. somewhere private.

If you had the opportunity to spend time in the ocean with any sea creature what would it be and why?
It would be a real treat to swim with sea-horses, they are so adorable! I’ve only seen them through glass in an aquarium.
If you could make one contribution to help protect our marine and beach resources and preserve them for future generations what would it be?
Seeing that these issues affect the future generation I’d go to schools to help create awareness. Young people should know how important it is to keep our beaches clean and protect marine life. Scuba diving courses and surf lessons are a great way of getting teenagers involved and interested in the ocean with all the surrounding issues and to get them to take up responsibility in the future.
Thank you Janien we look forward to seeing you on the beach soon or maybe riding Alaia at a surf break nearby soon. Wow, thank you! The Sliding Triangle and brief pant looks epic. My top size is a 34 and the bottom is a 30- 32. Thanks guys.

Gentlemen meet Paula, this week's BOMBshell she's a searing hot beach babe. |
| 18/03/2012 |
|
Hi Paula and welcome to theBOMBshell interview. When you think of surfing what is the very first thought that pops into your mind?
The first thing that comes into my mind when I think of surfing is the weekends at Westbrook, at my brothers spot, attempting to surf and bodyboard, and the messing about in the waves. Which of course leads to a ridiculous mussel braai and a long afternoon walk along the beach – without that sounding too cheesy!
Lets talk swimwear on girls, what do think works well and what should be avoided at all costs?
Eish that’s a tough one, I would say that Brazilian bikinis are dicey because they can look really hot on some girls but don’t do wonders for others. I love a good low cut hipster bikini as opposed to let’s say, as string bikini, because that can give you the freedom to be active on the beach and around people without being conscious of whether your bottoms are sitting in the right place or not.
Boardshorts on guys, above or below the knee?
Definitely above!! All the guys are busting European vibe nowadaysJ There are some awesome styles out there with kiff patterns and colours and if the guys have the confidence to rock it then big up to them!
If you are/were a surfer what surfboard would you/do you ride? An ancient Hawaiian hand made wooden Alaia, a cruisy fun colourful old school longboard or a modern high performance short board?
I would have to go for the old school longboard! When in doubt go old school!
Lets talk epic beach party’s for a moment... A full moon rising over the sea, sundowners, a mellow jam session (who would be playing?), what would it take to escalate into the mother of all beach parties?
(Wow! You just unleashed a mental party in my head with this question!!) Ok during the mellow part of the night, we would have Sublime rocking it out, maybe a bonfire where all the groupies can congregate. In order for the mother of all beach parties to occur there would need to be some jam jars being distributed, some cool little dancer ladies with those fun coconut things for tops, maybe throw some glow sticks on them to kick it up a notch and to top it off (seeing as this is MY beach party and I can choose my favourite stuff!) Mickey Avalon and his crew would rock up and things would get extremely festive.

Skinny-dipping, yes or no?
No, not for me hey.
If you had the opportunity to spend time in the ocean with any sea creature what would it be and why?
It would definitely be a Manatee, which comes from Florida, those things are so docile and friendly – they are like the upgrade of the whale shark, AND they look better!
If you could make one contribution to help protect our marine and beach resources and preserve them for future generations what would it be?
It would be to support the environmental groups that know what they are doing. I feel that as an individual I wouldn’t get as far I would like to in helping the marine life and beach resources, but there are some groups that are working hard to make sure that those things stay protected so I would help them by raising awareness, making contributions and supporting their charities.
Thank you Paula we look forward to seeing you on the beach soon or maybe riding longboard at a surf break nearby soon. For being so cool we’re stoked to offer you both a free surfing lesson from Learn 2 Surf - check out www.learn2surf.co.za and an awesome bikini from Kulu- kuluswimwear.co.za,

Hi Catherine, you’ve actually featured as one of our BOMBshells in the magazine a while back, but you’ve been up to some cool stuff recently so we thought we’d do a quick catch up. Tell us what have you been up to in the last year or so?
Well I finished my first year studying fashion design last year, which to be honest was quite a challenge. I thoroughly enjoyed it though. Then over Christmas and new years I went to Thailand with my boyfriend and his family. I can’t explain how incredible that place is!! The only fault is that there are no waves ;) I am very keen to start surfing and am definitely purchasing a sector 9 very soon J And then recently I have booked some really cool jobs, from Lizzy, Kangol and Jockey, to a little visit to Cape Town for a German catalogue shoot. Love it there!!
So you’re a Durban girl, living and studying in Durbs but flying down to CT when the jobs are there, you seem to have the best of both worlds?
Uh you could say it like that hahaha. Its great fun still being apart of the modeling industry, but I can tell you right now, it is not easy!! It puts a lot of pressure onto my shoulders, but I love doing both so I just have to deal with that stress.
Lets talk fashion design for a second because I know that is one of your fashions. If you look at ‘surf’ as a fashion category is there anything you see at the moment that excites you?
At the moment I am very interested in guys board shorts. I would love to find really cool fabrics from all over and make some boardies to sell in Durban
Girls with bodies like yours no doubt have cupboards full of bikinis, tell us what do you look for in a bikini that you are going to surf in?
Well definitely not a strapless bikini.. we don’t want anything falling off out there. Hahaha. i absolutely LOVE bikinis. There is always a new style or pattern that I fall in love with.
Talking about bikinis, the cool peeps at Kulu have said you can pick one out off their website kuluswimwear.co.za/ which style would you choose and why, also what size are you?
Ah awesome!!! Thank you J I have just had a look and really like code 8WIN, don’t know if that helps??. The set is a sliding triangle top and narrow hipster pants. I like bottoms that are flattering, and a top that is supportive J I am a size 8-10 bottom and size 10 top.

Sweet Catherine, great to catch up, quick parting question, who is your money on at the Bells event in Australia next month?
Definitely Jordy smith. He’s incredible!! And he’s from our home town, we have to support him.

Hi Gabriella and welcome to theBOMBshell interview. We have it on good authority you’ve been seen on a surfboard down at Addington, yet we know you are a Durban North Girl, what's up with that?
Yes many years ago - where the waves are TINY hahaha. I love the ocean, but surfing is a pretty strenuous sport for me!
Outside of going surfing what beaches do you enjoy hanging out on in Durban?
I love Umhlanga Bronze beach and UShaka :)
 .png)
© Ice Models |
You are a born and bred Durban girl, what are the best things about living in Durban?
I love the great weather all year round, which lets you wear those pretty Summer dresses :) The only disadvantage? Bad hair days due to the humidity here! The people are also very friendly and relaxed in this city which is cool.
Outside of modelling you have a rather interesting job, apparently you get paid to shop online how on earth does that work?
My job is pretty unique, ''m a blog editor and e-commerce researcher, so that sometimes involves shopping on some online stores eg. Victoria's Secret!
© Ice Models
Because you’ve been so cool and because we know you’ll look amazing in it ,Kulu have said you can pick out a style that you think suits you most if you go to http://kuluswimwear.co.za/ what style do you choose and what size are you?
Kulu's swimwear is sensational! I'd have to go with the Sliding Triangle & hipster pant bikini in Aqua, size 10.
(Sliding Triangle & Hipster pant Code 8E1N)
Thanks Gabriella we hope to see you on the beach soon.
